Swiss / Jelly Roll

apricot swiss / jelly roll recipe | Halal Home Cooking

As-Salamu Alaikum,

If you didn't see this pic already (instagram) or you did, here it is again this time with the addition of a rather big, not so watered down, watermark?!

This was my first time baking a swiss / jelly roll alhamdulillah a soft, sugary sponge by using apricot jam instead of a classic red berry it gave a different look and taste.

Let me tell you the spiral shape got even better further along the roll but no time for snapping when you literally have to hide it before a toddler takes it into her own hands to get another piece.

If you want to have a go at making your very own (way better than the shop bought) head on over to  This Baker Girl Blogs: Swiss Roll From The Pink Whisk Guide To Cake Making  I promise if you follow those steps in her recipe you can't go wrong, in sha Allah.

P.s. I used self raising flour because I was out of plain and it still turned out well but next time I will make sure to have some plain flour in stock because there is enough air in the whipped eggs and sugar it doesn't need an additional raising agent.

Assalamu alayki Asmaa, hope you and family are good.
MashaAllah you are so talented. I saw this being made on the food channel and thought it looked pretty tricky. Whilst she was rolling it broke but it was okay as she covered it in cream. Looked fab.

Wa alaikum as-salam sanaa, alhamdulillah InshaAllah you and your children are in good health and strong eman.
I filled mine with jam and rolled it up while it was warm so it was easier but I have read if you want to fill it with cream etc then you have to wait until sponge is cold before filling with cream and rolling or cream would melt. Some are meant to crack according to Mary berry when I saw her do chocolate roulade so as long as it tastes good I might try her recipe next, inshaAllah

Oh I forgot to say sponge cracks if over cooked or like I mentioned you leave it to go cold it stiffens up making it harder to roll so cracks appear, some roll it with no filling leave it to go cold then unroll fill and roll again. Lol you can tell I did my research into Swiss rolls / roulades

That looks so good, it's like the amount of hardwork is penetrated, Great work, I'm so scared of the rolling part, so haven't made a swiss roll or a yule log yet.

Salaam sis

It looks beautiful! Great job on the rolling - that was the part I was scared of myself. I'll have to try it with apricot jam next time, it sounds delicious :)
